[These ramblings taken from notes whilst chuckling a lot] They've just finished a film called 'America 101' which is available on DVD. Someone asked them a question in Dutch and they replied! They didn't have a choice as to which of them played Mingo/Fanty. At the first talk, Yan had a red top and Rafael was in blue. They started out as a double act in Toronto and for around 3 to 4 years did a show together at the comedy store. They specialised in doing impressions and then did scenes of famous people meeting their 'twin' [because everyone is meant to have one somewhere]. Differences? Rafael has a freckle on his left eyebrow and claims to be smarter. Yan has a 'big butt' and a slightly different nose due to having it broken in the past. Rafael lived in Dublin about 13 years ago. He once had the urge to phone home from Dublin and found out that Yan had been in a minor car accident. F&M were originally meant to have died tin the Maidenhead scene, but Joss rewrote it on the basis of hopefully being able to use them for a sequel. Their first reaction of getting Serenity had been one of joy. They 'drank Guinness to get into character'. Before Serenity, they knew of Joss from Firefly and Toy Story, also Adam for My Bodyguard and DC Cab. They were very coy about having pretended to be each other in school and sharing girls . Rafael did admit to having taken a test as Yan once. Favourite comedians: Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, Seinfeld, Letterman (in his stand-up days), Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd. Favourite tv shows: 24, West wing, South Park, Team America [ggg], House, Prison Break, Scrubs. They were up for parts in season 2 of 24. Apparently Washington state is 'high caliber guise expresso' - something about 'a guy jacked up on 8 cups of coffee with a pump action shotgun'.
Someone said how they'd enjoyed Christina in 'Tru Calling'. She said she was glad because the weather was freezing and the script was a mess. Jonathan was trying to wear his Jayne hat as a kind of posing pouch, over his trousers!! He did Buffy, then Firefly and then Angel; Joss doesn't like him that much because he keeps killing off his characters [humour from the audience]. Jonathan talked a lot [possibly a bit too much] about having to act giving Emma Thompson a pelvic floor exam whilst acting. He would 'love to play with swords'. Christina would like to play Anne of Green Gables Jonathan; P T Barnum. 'Jonathan's hat doubles as a coffee filter' He lived in NY for eight years and did theatre; loves Peter Shaeffer and Shakespeare. Jonathan seemed to be a bit confused as he kept mistaking the microphone and his glass of drink for one another. At one point he tried a Scottish accent (with variable success). Christina would like to put the entire Firefly cast in a Big Brother house scenario just to see what would happen. Maybe with spikes coming out of the wall [humour!].
. Jonathan in head-to-toe Jayne colours (see photo) Where do I start? Dirty, smutty and mostly unrepeatable things went on in this session! Jonathan kept swinging his vibrant orange kilt (making out he was...dispersing gas, to put it delicately) and one swing revealed a fair slice of naked behind, which confirmed what he'd claimed earlier about going commando. Fairly early on there was a brief session where Jonathan pretended to be Neil's hands, which was fairly funny. Talk ranged along these subjects:- 1. On stage nudity. 2. Flatulence 3. The appearance of Jonathan's penis. 4. Pelvic floor exercises. 5. Scatalogical areas. I think that's about as far as I want to take it; it was riotously funny/giggly at the time.
Michael talked about his new film - 'Dead Silence' which is horror, about a ventriloquist who uses devious and nasty means of getting rid of people he/she hates. Christina has done 'La Cucina' and a tv series called 'Mad Men'. She likes almost any role if it's written well. Michael said that bad guys are more fun and he just is as charming as he can be, because that's more scary. If they had a pick of their own movie;- Christina - Fantasy/magical/fairy tale Michael - something in which his character had to be severely tested by adversity; say a family member was killed or wounded and Michael's part was to have to do unthinkable things as a result.
He laughs a lot; it's a rich, deep, warm laugh, drawing you in. I can imagine he'd have made a great Dad if that had been his choice. Who would Ron put in special hell? 1. People using cell phones on planes. 2. Friends who come around to Ron's house and leaf through his mail! How did it feel being God on 'Teen Angel'? [Pause, beat] 'Familiar!' He did complain about the trickiness of doing wire work when he had to 'ascend'. He thinks Book was probably an Operative, but warmed a lot to the idea of him being a Male Companion!! He gets recognised for Barney Miller, Firefly/Serenity, and an episode of the Twilight Zone in which he played the Devil.
