I would like to apologise in advance for the quality of some of these pictures - my camera flash was being less than co-operative. However, some hard work by my hubby with PhotoImpact has partly compensated for my incompetance.
Lots of convention-type activities. For Spring Leap, I had got a gentleman who likes to call himself 'WarAngel' to do a one-off comic 'photo' of Scott Bakula. Well, the 'artist', one Adrian Ko was there - so I made a point of going to his table in the dealer's room and thanking him personally. He's Chinese/American, about my height and absolutely charming. He also really knows his swords . I didn't attend as many talks as I'd have liked - there was so much on, plus I was in basic sword class for 2 hours. The Bob (Bob Chapin) is probably 6ft 6ins and skinny as a rail, but brother can he move! I also had to keep dashing to and from autograph lines, which were quite well managed. Not as good as Homeland, though . Adrian Ko did his 'slide' presentation on the swords of Highlander which he managed to make both informative and funny. His Sean Connery is spot on! The charity auction was today - I came away with a nice black HL teeshirt and a Mug o' Duncan (which I must bathe in holy water to stop it taking over my house!) for a knockdown price of $15. Jim Byrnes did the cabaret in the evening, which kicked ass! We had the pleasure of having Elizabeth dance amongst us 'ordinary people' for a little while.
I sang Robert Burns songs with Jette at lunchtime to a small but appreciative audience. More talks, a panel about Methos (fascinating), how the swordmaster for HL choreographed the fight scenes for different people, the trailer from the new HL movie (WOW). More autographs, too . I managed a complete set! I went up for Stan's dressed as Xena (as in previous conventions, the dealers had heard about the outfit and wanted to see it up close!). He grinned at me and we had a nice friendly interchange. Liz Gracen, who was sitting near him, made some comment about how I looked sexy, so I turned, grinned and bobbed her a very fast half curtsy as a thank-you before retiring. I had a lovely, laughing interhchange with Peter, during which we exchanged various greetings in Welsh with both of us clearly struggling to remember more!
There was also a game show based loosely on Jeopardy, but not one that's made it to terrestrial Over Here as far as I'm aware. Gillian, Donna and F Braun were on the game panel and Bob Chapin doubled up as Vanna, the hostess (but he didn't wear a dress!). He used his sword to comic and spectacular effect on the paper pieces that were used. I have one piece, duly sliced by sword-cut and signed "Bob 'Vanna' Chapin"! James Horan sang later in the evening and nearly had us in tears. What a voice :::wibble::: Clear, light baritone. A sweet man.
Gillian and Donna did their 'pony' show - bits of HL we haven't seen - behind the scenes stuff. Wonderful. We saw the trailer another couple of times and then that was it. I made a point of thanking Ginger Buchanan for the Quantum Leapnovel program and got into an interesting (but necessarily short) discussion about the show and the aftermath thereof. I also commended Josepha on her writing of Methos.
